MORE INFORMATION

What's the Acoustically Transparent Screen?

An acoustically transparent (AT) screen, also known as an acoustic transparent screen, is a projection screen specially designed for home theaters and high-end audio-video rooms. Its surface is covered with tiny pores or woven gaps. Projected light forms images normally, while sound can pass through the screen. This allows speakers to be placed behind the screen, aligning the sound source with the image and delivering a more authentic, immersive audio experience. There are two main types:
Woven AT screen: Made of specialty fibers woven together, relying on gaps between fibers for sound transmission. Sound transmission is good, but gain is usually lower, the image can look soft or hazy, and moiré may appear.
Perforated AT screen: Laser micro-perforated on PVC or other substrates. The image is sharper, higher gain can be achieved, and it is suitable for 4K/8K and large images, but sound transmission depends on hole diameter and perforation rate.
Key parameters include: gain, acoustic transparency rate/perforation rate, hole diameter, weave texture, and moiré resistance.

Why Choose Woven Screen Over Micro-Perforated Screens?

Both woven acoustically transparent fabrics and micro-perforated projection materials allow speaker placement behind the screen. However, our woven technology is especially suitable for modern 4K/8K home theater systems where acoustic transparency, reduced moiré risk, and clean image texture are important.

Why Home Theater Enthusiasts Prefer Woven AT

Reduced moiré interference
Accurate color reproduction
No visible perforation patterns
Optimized for 4K and 8K projection
Balanced acoustic transparency
Ideal for behind-screen speaker layouts

What is ALR Micro-Perforated?

ALR Micro-Perforated is an 8K material with ALR features. It provides acoustic transparency thanks to our proprietary automatic spraying equipment, which evenly applies a reflective coating with different gains, contrast levels, and fine textures on the PVC surface to achieve superior picture quality. It fully meets the SMPTE requirement of 12–16 fL for picture brightness (Gain 1). We use precision laser perforation from Germany to process a smooth PVC soft base material into a microporous acoustically transparent fabric with a uniform pore size (φ0.4 mm).

What Is White Micro-Perforated Fabric?

White Micro-Perforated Acoustically Transparent is a premium soft matte white acoustically transparent fabric, engineered with precisely distributed micro-perforations of Ø 0.4 mm in both longitudinal and transverse directions. This refined perforation design completely eliminates moiré artifacts, allowing audiences to enjoy closer viewing distances—reduced from 6 meters to as near as 2.5 meters—without any visual compromise. An advanced reflective surface incorporating a micro-prism suppression structure is perfectly matched with 4K projectors to deliver wider viewing angles and exceptional image clarity. Every detail is rendered with lifelike precision, from subtle facial textures to the finest eyelashes, while faithfully preserving the projector's natural wide-angle performance. At the same time, the acoustically transparent design ensures clear, immersive sound reaches the audience seamlessly, creating a truly cinematic audio-visual experience.

When should it be used?

AT screens first developed along with sound films. Commercial cinemas needed speakers behind the screen, so perforated screens appeared. Later, home theater entered the multi-channel era. Especially with the rise of dedicated media rooms and the custom installation market, AT screens gradually entered high-end homes.
Suitable times to use an AT screen:
You want to hide front left, center, and right speakers behind the image;
You have a dedicated home theater with good light control;
Projector brightness is sufficient to compensate for light loss;
You are willing to do acoustic calibration and EQ compensation;
You pursue the immersion of “sound coming out of the image.”
Not suitable times:
An ordinary living room, mainly for TV or variety shows;
A low-brightness projector, but you want a 150-inch-plus image;
Limited budget, or unable to install speakers behind the screen;
You do not want to deal with acoustic tuning and just want simple viewing.

Who needs it?
Main users: Commercial cinemas, screening rooms, director’s screening rooms; High-end private cinema owners; AV enthusiasts; Custom installers, AV designers, and acoustical consultants.
Who should choose it: People pursuing audio-visual unity and an immersive experience; People who want to hide all front speakers and keep the space clean; People with a dedicated room who can control light and sound.
Who should not: People using soundbars or TV speakers; People unable to place speakers behind the screen; People with insufficient projector brightness and poor light control.

Where is it used?

Application scenarios: Commercial cinema screens; Home theaters; Screening rooms, recording-studio projection rooms; Immersive exhibition halls, auditoriums, conference halls; Theme parks, cultural tourism AV projects.
Physical location: AT screens are usually installed in front of the front speakers. Left, center, and right channel speakers are hidden behind the screen, and center channel speakers are especially common. Subwoofers are sometimes placed behind the screen, but this is not required. The key is to leave space between the screen and the speakers to avoid sound waves reflecting between the screen and the speakers.

Why use an AT screen?
There are three core values:
Audio-visual unity: dialogue and sound effects come from the position of the character or object in the image, not from below or above the screen.
Hidden equipment: front and center speakers are all hidden behind the screen, making the visual presentation cleaner.
Professional immersion: this is the standard approach in commercial cinemas and high-end home theaters, and it noticeably improves involvement.
But the costs are also clear:
Image brightness may decrease;
High frequencies may be attenuated, making sound dull;
Poor-quality woven screens may produce moiré;
Cost and installation/calibration difficulty are higher.

How Does It Work? How to Choose and How to Install?

Working Principle
Sound waves pass through the screen’s micro-perforations or woven gaps. The larger the holes and the higher the open area ratio, the better the sound transmission, but the greater the image loss. Therefore, an AT screen is essentially a balance between acoustic transparency and optical image quality.

How to Choose

Look at the projector: low brightness → high-gain perforated screen; 4K/8K → avoid cross plain weave, prefer diagonal weave or high-density micro-perforation.
Look at size: large images prefer perforated screens; small images with sound as the priority can use woven screens.
Look at speaker distance: if speakers are too close to the screen, high-frequency loss is more obvious; leave 10–30 cm or more if possible.
Look at acoustic transparency rate: professional cinema-grade products usually have a high effective open area ratio, but this should be considered together with hole diameter and perforation rate.
Look at samples: subjective differences between materials are large; it is best to actually view the image and listen to the sound.
